Dagmar Waltemath | Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Inf.
Professor of medical informatics (MILA)
Data Integration, Graph Databases, RDM
Head of Core Unit Data Integration Center (DIZ)
As a Computer Scientist specializing in database and information systems, I have spent the last decade solving the problem of clinical data fragmentation. Since 2018, I have served as the Professor of Medical Informatics at University Medicine Greifswald (UMG), and since 2020, I have led the Core Unit for medical Data Integration at UMG (Detailed services: https://www.medizin.uni-greifswald.de/diz/). My expertise lies in transforming isolated clinical data silos into standardized, FAIR research infrastructures for biomedical research and care. My professional focus is the technical orchestration of heterogeneous biomedical data, large-scale data integration and the application of graph databases to manage the highly interconnected nature of clinical information. By leveraging graph-based technologies and rigorous provenance tracking, my lab ensures that data remains traceable, reproducible, and context-rich as it transitions from primary care systems into research environments. Beyond local infrastructure, I drive international interoperability as an active contributor to the COMBINE standardization efforts in computational biology, the German Medical Informatics Initiative (MIRACUM) and the German Network University Medicine (NUM).
